Caramel Star Chocolate Milk

Who doesn’t love an ice cold glass of chocolate milk? (I know, probably lots of folks, but it’s a much loved expression so I’m going with it!)

I found out about this hacked version of chocolate milk from one of my great-nephews. I was describing the principals behind Chef Hacker Kitchen and he got it right away. He told me that he had hacked chocolate milk with some of the ingredients that his parents normally had in their ‘fridge. The first is caramel coffee cream and given the drink’s name you likely can guess the brand. He told me that you have to use “the good kind” so take note if you are planning to make this one for yourself. I’d like to think that I may have been the inspiration for the second ingredient. It is the liquid that maraschino cherries come packed in and several years ago I introduced him to the perfect Kid Cocktail – The Roy Rogers – which also makes use of cherry juice.

I admit that Caramel Star Chocolate Milk is quite the sweet drink so it’s likely best to enjoy it infrequently. It pairs nicely with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and is equally at home with chicken strips and fries. Yes, it’s kid friendly!

Consider that this 4 ingredient drink is simple and was created based on an existing “recipe”, (chocolate milk), and enhanced with some well-liked ingredients that just happened to be available. This is the essence of Chef Hacking! Make it with your children or grand-children or better yet, hack it yourself and let us know how it turns out!
